 Master

Application files for the APE Master programme are evaluated by an admission committee. APE Master and Doctoral students are generally registered at the EHESS (the degrees are also delivered by the EHESS).

Under certain conditions, students can be admitted to enter the APE Master programme at the M2 level. Such students must demonstrate that they have already taken courses that are similar to the compulsory M1 sequence in microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics. Applicants must explain in their letter of motivation whether and why they are applying for admission at the M1 or M2 levels. The June committee also examines admissions into the M2 year of the outgoing M1 class. Students who have fulfilled the M1 requirements are admitted into the M2 year.

To succeed on the APE Master programme students need to prove that they can work to a high standard and have excellent analytical ability; all core economics and econometrics courses assume a deep prior knowledge of calculus techniques, matrix algebra, constrained optimisation, and basic statistics. As a consequence, students should have a solid quantitative background prior to joining the M1. In order to evaluate themselves, candidates are strongly advised to try doing these exercises.

Starting from the 2007-2008 academic year all compulsory courses and most optional courses will be given in English. Therefore an English proficiency certificate will be asked to each candidate (TOEFL or TOEIC or IELTS).
